This is my Higurashi no Naku Koro ni role play forum.
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni was originally a virtual manga that was adapted into an anime, a manga, and multiple pc games.
For all those who don't know, here is a description of Higurashi. It has no spoilers.
It is in the 58th year of Showa. The summer starts earlier than usual. In Jun, they’re enjoying the sound of cicada at noon and buzz of higurashi(*) in the evening.
Here, Hanamizawa Village, which locates on the rim of XX prefecture, is a small village whose popularion is less than 2,000. However, "it" repeats every year.
Hinamizawa Village Consecutive Unnatural Murders (1979 ~ 1983).
Every year, on the fixed day of Jun, one person dies and one person disappears. It is a death chain from the fight related to a big dam construction plan. The incident that was hidden in the middle of Showa revives.
It is whether a plot or an accident...or a curse?
The person who’s supposed to be there doesn’t exist.
The person who must not be there does exit.
The person whom you met last night doesn’t exit.
The person who is there doesn’t live.
The tragedy is inevitable? You can do nothing but succumb to it?
However, do not submit yourself to the tragedy.
It is only you that can face it.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni takes place during June 1983, at a fictional rural village called Hinamizawa (based on the village of Shirakawa, Gifu, a World Heritage Site), which has a population of approximately 2000. The main character, Keiichi Maebara, moves to Hinamizawa and befriends his new classmates Rena Ryugu, Mion Sonozaki, Rika Furude, and Satoko Hojo. Keiichi joins their after-school club activities, which consist mostly of card and board games (and punishment games for the loser, usually him.) Hinamizawa appears to be a normal, peaceful, rural village to Keiichi. However, the tranquility abruptly ends after the annual Watanagashi Festival, a celebration to commemorate and give thanks to the local god, Oyashiro-sama. Keiichi learns that every year for the past four years, one person has been murdered and another has gone missing on the day of the Watanagashi Festival. Keiichi himself soon becomes implicated into the strange events surrounding the Watanagashi Festival and Oyashiro-sama. In each story arc, he or one of his friends become paranoid, and a crime is committed. Usually, the crime involves the murder of one of their own friends. While it seems impossible to tell their delusions apart from the mystery of Hinamizawa, slowly the truth is revealed.
Even though the main character for most of Higurashi is Keiichi, the story is centered more around a girl named Rika. Rika is over 100 years old. As it turns out, she has lived June of 1983 over and over again too many time to count. This June always seems to end with her and her friend's deaths. Usually cause by another one of her friends.
The story is basically Rika's attempt to stop this from happening, and see the rest of her life, as it should be. I will not say any more, because I don't want to give away any spoilers.
Higurashi is broken up into several arcs. There are two types of arcs. Question arcs and Answer arcs. The question arcs are each from a certain character's point of view, and leave you thinking WTH?!?!?! The answer arcs are from a different character's point of view, and clear up what was left out in the question arcs. The first two question arcs has corresponding answer arcs, but, as far as I know, the third and fourth do not.
It is a great anime, and I recommend it to anyone who has yet to see it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, you might be thinking, 'How could someone possibly make a role play forum of this?!?!?!' Where here you go. The point of this role play forum is to find out who the killer is, and stop him/her before time runs out. It could be absolutely anyone, and absolutely anyone can turn against you at absolutely any time.
You can take the role of a school child, biker, police officer, or anything else that you can think of. Having watched the anime, read the manga, or played any of the games/virtual manga is not necessary, but it is recommended.
